Hold Those Rebellious Thoughts Captive

The advent of A-bombs and Auschwitz, D-day and Dunkirk, had the world at war for the second time in two decades. Ten million were killed during WWI. Fifty-five million were killed during WWII. Naturally, the eyes of the nations were trained on the various and sundry leaders of the Axis and Allied Powers to steer them out of a second shadow.

Said politicians vied for the upper hand and symbolized as much with their hand symbols. Joseph Stalin (humbly dubbing himself “Man of Steel”) wielded the clenched fist, seeing as how he ruled with the iron fist of U.S.S.R. communism. Adolf Hitler - author of Mein Kampf turned Chancellor of Germany - was hailed by Third Reich fascists with an outstretched palm. And Winston Churchill's fingers formed a "V" for victory. So confident was good old Winston of a coup de grâce that he said, "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it." Hand symbols: Clenched fist, flat palm, “V” for victory, what do you get? Rock. Paper. Scissors. Of course, Churchill's "V" for victory hand symbol more famously became the peace sign during the 'Nam protests. Peace and victory go hand in hand.

Paul wrote, "The God of Peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly." (The God of Peace was Paul's favorite title for God…but He's not afraid to CRUSH His foes like Churchill did Hitler).

Paul told the Corinthians, "Death is the final foe to be defeated," and, "Death is swallowed up in victory." The Greek word Paul employs and deploys for "victory" is the word Nike. The God of Peace will get victory and crush our foes, which our foes don't wear flesh and blood, mind. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but spiritual, mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds. We don't fight Mussolini, nor do we have an AK 47 (we do have a John 3:16), nor are we pumping Nazis full of lead.

The mind is the battlefield.

There can be no Nike, no victory and no inner peace unless we have mental toughness. World War III is waged in our heads. We need to drag stressful thoughts off like prisoners of war.

Paul wrote, "Take your thoughts captive." Isaiah said, "You will keep him in perfect PEACE whose mind is stayed on You." Jesus said, "Take no thought for the morrow," and, "Love the Lord your God with all your mind." Solomon declared, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." God told Joshua to "meditate" on His laws, so he would have good success.

Eastern meditation is about emptying your mind, but Hebrew meditation is about filling your mind. Paul told his Philippian friends to meditate on what's lovely and noble. We're to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and put our thoughts on things above.

The average person has over 30,000 thoughts a day. When's the last time you took time to think about what you're thinking about?

Victorious living and peaceful thinking go hand in hand. Long ago, a sage tendered this piece of advice: "If you sow a thought you'll reap an action; if you sow an action you'll reap a habit; if you sow a habit you'll reap a character; if you sow a character you'll reap a destiny." Every Nike traces its genesis back to a single thought.

How you think even affects your health.

The placebo and psychosomatic effect propagated by modern doctors was taught in the Bible thousands of years ago. It's wisdom tradition held that, "A merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit rots the bones." Matter o' fact, 75 to 95 percent of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of thought life! (!!!!!) Two of the typical diseases of modern life, the coronary thrombosis and stomach ulcers, are often a direct result of stress. The saying is oh-so-true: Medical science is always working on adding years to our life, but only God can add life to our years!

Keep your outlook an up look, and you will have a Nike outcome. We're not a mope generation but a hope generation. Be a citizen of ImagiNation; THINK BIGGER. When the God of Peace says you've got a hope and a future, in which all things work together for the good, stop saying, "No way!" and start saying, "Yahweh!"
